Has anyone had experience with these cars? Problems? Driving experience? Anything else? Looking into buying.

Thanks

I know someone that has had one for 30,000 miles and he bought it used in mint condition with 50,000 already on it. No issues so far.

That's good to know. The one thing about the internet and looking for cars is that people only post horror stories. Never have I seen a thread like this...

"E55, no problems"

That has the M113 correct? And supercharger? The N/A M113 is practically bullet proof, I believe the supercharger sometimes go bad but that can be replaced.

I think the W211 was from the "couldn't care less" period at DaimlerChrysler (a byword for craftsmanship), when quality was truly shocking. Then again, experience and attitude might be relative. If you're coming out of a 2002 GTI 1.8T, you might find the W211 extremely dependable.

OTOH, I think the W211 is the best looking E-Class to date.

He and every other amg owner I know goes through tires like no tommorow though. He's always complaining about gas too, so I guess there are downsides.

Well it's all fine and dandy until your airmatic suspension gives up the ghost. That 4 grand in parts, they didn't care about dependability.

Gorgeous car though

Actually it was one step up from that. You're thinking of the W210.

I am aware of the fuel return issue (which happens on all engine variants), where after pumping a full tank, gas leaks from the fuel return nipple and pools in little indentations on the top of the fuel tank, making the driver's side rear smell like gas even though the filler is on the passenger side. No recall, and if you're out of warranty it is a $2000 fix. Supposedly no fire or inhalation danger, but W211 owners tried to sue to get Mercedes to fix them to no avail.

I have a W211 E320, and it has this problem. I bought the car with a used-car warranty that says it covers "fuel tank, fuel return, fuel pump" among other things. I'll find out in the next month or so whether they fix it under this warranty.

Drove the e55 wagon that cccmanhattan used to have. There was a fuel injector issue, they had it for 2 years like that and apparently was running at like 60% power. Lucking after it was fixed was when I drove it. Great car, very quick, things go blurry every time you step on it. Keep the traction on, unless you want to die.
